Washington Township is located in the north western section of Macomb County. It is located about 35 miles north ofdowntown Detroit. The township itself is 6 square miles but a small part of Romeo is just inside the southern line. View map for location of Washington Township
The area was originally surveyed in 1816 and became a township in 1829. It was mostly farms and orchards. Today several of the orchards have closed to make room for housing but few orchards are still in operation. Read More about Washington Township.

According to the2000 United States Censusthe population was 19,080 and it had 7,317 housing units.
Housing
In Washington Township homes range in price from $47,000 to $820,000 and condos $30,000 to $277,000. The age of the homes vary from the late 1800's to brand new homes built in 2010. According to stats from the local MLS in 2010, there were 169 homes and 54 condos sold with an average sales price of $244,943 for homes and $136,643 for condos. The average market time 86 days for homes and 65 days for condos. There were 29 vacant lots sold with an average sold price of $47,418.
Travel
M-53 and Van Dyke are the main roads into Washington and they run north and south. The busiest roads running east and west are 32 mile on the far north end and 26 Mile on the far south end. There are also several gravel roads left in the area. The two major expressways I-94 and I-75. Washington Township, Bruce, Shelby Township, Oakland, Romeo and Ray Township.
Shopping
As for shopping there are 4 large shopping malls within 30 -45 minutes - Lakeside Mall, Partridge Creek, the Village of Rochester Hills and Macomb Mall. There are also several strip centers in the area with large chains and numerous restaurants. Plus downtown Romeo and downtown Rochester Hills both feature several small boutique stores.
Education
Washington Township consists of 3 school districts. Almost all of Washington is covered by the Romeo school district but a small section is covered by Utica and Rochester. Just south east about 30 minutes aways is Macomb Community College where you can receive an associates degree and through Macomb University a bachelor's and master's degree. Also in neighboring Rochester, Michigan you will find Oakland University which offers 132 baccalaureate degree programs and 117 graduate degree and certificate programs.
Hospitals
Henry Ford Macomb Hospital located in nearby Clinton Township offers 435 beds, along with a heart center, cancer center, birthing center and more. They also offer a Health Care Center right in Van Dyke in Bruce Township. Children's Hospital of Michigan Stilson Specialty Center is also located in Clinton Township and offers all types of pediatric specialties. Just south in Macomb Township is the Beaumont Medical Center along with several other large hospitals throughout Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County.
Theater
Macomb Center for the Performing Arts is located just south in Clinton Township and features various shows like the Letterman, Ann Margaret, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Lou Rawls and the Temptations. On the grounds of Oakland University you will find The Meadow Brook Theatre which also offers high quality entertainment.
